Macular Degeneration
Macular is an area at the back of your eyes where 90% of the photoreceptors are. Macular degeneration is a disease that causes loss of your central vision over time. Macular degeneration is usually related to ageing and most frequently affects people over the age of 50. However, it is not a normal or inevitable consequence of ageing. Its is a painless disease that gets progressively worse over time.
What are the symptoms
- Blurry vision
- Straight lines appear wavy
- Distorted vision
- Inability to see in the dim light and/or seeing spots
Risk Factors
- Smoking
- Diabetes
- Family history of macula degeneration
- Age over 50s
Treatment

You may be referred to an ophthalmologist for further examination and treatment or visit us on a regular basis to monitor disease progression. It is essential to follow recommendations and undertake regular eye tests.
